ECHL Vice President of Hockey
Operations Joe Ernst, presents ECHL referee Jason Rollins with the 2012 Ryan
Birmingham Award.
This award honors an ECHL On-Ice Official for his contributions and dedication to the league
officiating staff and is determined in voting by ECHL On-Ice Officials. The Award is named in
honor of ECHL linesman Ryan Birmingham who tragically lost his life in an automobile
accident in May 2007.
Jason is in his 13th season as an ECHL referee, and becomes the first referee to receive the
Birmingham Award. He is one of just four referees to work over 500 games in the league, and he
has been selected to work the 2007 All-Star Game as well as the 2007 and 2008 Kelly Cup.
